Types of Lubricants

July 10, 2008

Lubricants or briefly saying lubes come in three types:

water-based

oil-based

silicone-based

Let me strike a warning note first! Oil-based lubes tend to stain fabrics, break down latex and even sex toys’ materials. So, once you’ve decided to use a greasy potion, you’d better resort to methods of contraception other than condoms. In behalf of oil based lubes I will state that they can be used as massage creams.

If speaking about silicone and water based lubricants, the former ones slide better but they are less easy to wash away.

Aside from the base which guarantees a better slip, the lubricant contains all sorts of substances. It can also include analgesic substances (usually lidocaine) which is perfect for anal sex and antiseptics. Furthermore, you may find lubes with a contraceptive effect against sperm.

However, I am not eager to recommend you this lubricant as the only method of contraception. Well, it remains for me to add that lubricants can be liquid as well as solid. In fact, that’s a matter of a personal preference.
